LA Trails History:

L/A Trails was initially developed as a course project for the L/A Civic Leadership Institute in 2001.  A group of individuals who form the Civic Leadership Group saw a need in our community to have safe places to walk, run and bike.  The group realized that this was not a new idea and that many people had worked on planning trails, but more work was needed to implement these wonderful plans.  The group felt that efforts were needed to be organized and unified, and thus, L/A Trails was born.

L/A Trails is now a program that networks with city staff, outdoor enthusiasts, students, businesses and other civic-minded organizations.  L/A Trails serves as a public advocate for trail development by bringing together groups and individuals to help create and maintain non-motorized recreational trails connecting urban streets and rural trails in Lewiston-Auburn, Maine.  L/A Trails has donated fund for projects such as lighting in Railroad Park and trail stabilizer at Mount Apatite Park.  L/A Trails continues to help move existing initiatives toward implementation to transform the quality of life in Lewiston and Auburn by helping to develop the most comprehensive, accessible and well-used trail system of any Maine community.
